Since its establishment in 1936, Malia Group has grown with every decade, using its unique legacy and knowledge to launch

1936The dream begins when Dr. Jean Michel Sarraf opens the Sarraf Pharmacy in Tripoli, North Lebanon.

1951The Comptoir National de la Doguerie Sarraf is established to provide medicines throughout the country. Later the same year, we acquired the exclusive rights to distribute the Wella brand.

1963Ch. Sarraf & Co. is established to distribute FMCG in Lebanon.

1968Cosmaline opens second plant in Amaret Chalhoub.

1975Ch. Sarraf & Co. distributes Shiseido in Lebanon beginning a long and fruitful relationship with the Japanese pioneer in cosmetics and skincare.

1982Cosmaline undergoes a third expansion.

1986Malia Holding is established to unite all member companies under one parent company. Later the same year, Cosmaline, Malia Group’s in-house personal care brand, is launched.

1987Pharmaline is established to manufacture, market, and sell pharmaceutical products.

1991Malia Trust is founded.

1992Pharmaline expands its plant facilities.

1993Diversification continues with the establishment of Malia Development to manage the Group’s real estate interests. Pharmaline signs with Pierre Fabre, marking the company’s first venture into becoming a trusted licensee of pharmaceutical multinationals.

1998Cosmaline earns ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 Certification for Quality Management Systems & Quality Environment Systems, respectively/ Pharmaline becomes the first pharmaceutical company in Lebanon to be accredited with two ISO certifications: ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems & ISO 14001 Certification for Quality Environment Systems.

2001The Shiseido Day Spa opens its doors to the public.

2003Leadline (Off-Shore)/Mared Al Iraqiya is established to distribute FMCG in Iraq. Pharmaline signs a license agreement with Merck Santé - France and Merck KGaA - Germany, now known as Merck Serono.

2004Cosmaline’s new industrial facilities are inaugurated. Malia Group garners a groundbreaking partnership with British American Tobacco (BAT) and becomes the exclusive trade-marketers for BAT tobacco brands in Lebanon. That same year, Malia Group’s entry into the fashion sector begins with the signing of a master-franchisee deal with Paul&Shark.

2005MaliaTec is established to provide businesses with AIDC, mobile automation, GPS, tracking, and digital solutions and begins making its mark in the market by winning key accounts and forging deals with industry leaders. Malia International (Off-Shore)/Malia C.T.I. is established as the Group’s engineering and contracting company providing turnkey projects in Iraq. Pharmaline signs a license agreement with Tripharma - Turkey and Phadisco – Cyrpus.

2006The Jean & Charlotte Foundation is created to offer welfare relief and to address the educational aspirations, medical needs and financial concerns of those who require the most support.

2007Hotelline is created for the purpose of designing, developing and building the Erbil Rotana Hotel, to be managed by Rotana Hotel Management Co. MaliaTec expands its portfolio with the launch of a GPS solution.

2008Syrmadi is established to provide FMCG & cosmetics to the Syrian market. In another landmark deal, Leadline (Off-Shore)/Mared Al Iraqiya sign a distribution agreement for the Iraqi market. The cornerstone of the Erbil Rotana Hotel is set in the presence of H.E. Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Pharmaline signs a license agreement with Abbott – USA.

2009Cosmaline exports to Europe. Pharmaline completes second plant expansion to meet EU norms and increase production capacity.

2010Cosmaline wins big by receiving the Lebanese Excellence Award from Lebanese President H.E. Michel Suleiman. MaliaTec expands its reach with the establishment of Malia Algeria to service the North African market. Pharmaline signs a license agreement with GSK - UK.

2011Pharmaline signs a license agreement with Novartis - Switzerland. Erbil Rotana Hotel opens its doors to the public

2012Malia Group begins celebrations for its milestone 75 years anniversary. Pharmaline celebrates 25 years of Improving Quality of Life and Cosmaline commemorates 25 years being one of the region’s leading personal care brands. Mared Al Iraqiya signs a deal with Red Bull for distribution of the energy drink throughout Iraq. Malia Group participates in Lebanon Capital Markets Day at the London Stock Exchange.

2013Malia Group is listed at 48th Most Impactful Company in Forbes Middle East’s Top 100 Companies Making an Impact in the Arab World and is one of the top 5 Lebanese companies listed in the publication. Mared Al Iraqiyan inks a deal with dairy-based food & beverage multinational FrieslandCampina to distribute Rainbow Milk.

2014Malia Group begins implementation of Corporate Governance. Ch. Sarraf & Co. signs a deal with Nuqul Group for the distribution of FINE tissue and hygiene products in Lebanon. Mared Al Iraqiya signs distribution deal with L’Oreal to provide retailers in Iraq with Garnier products. As a result of its increased investments in Iraq, Malia Group announces the launch of two major projects, Malia Logistics and Magma Square. Pharmaline launches the Quality for Professionals program as part of its CSR agenda. MaliaTec Al Iraqiya opens its doors to businesses in the country. That same year, MaliaTec also wins prestigious Honeywell Partner of the Year Award 2014 and Honeywell New Markets Business Excellence Partner 2014 Award.

2015Pharmaline signs a deal with Saudi Arabia’s Al Rashed Group to establish Pharmaline Saudia in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). Cosmaline launches the Cosmaline Beauty Salon at edutainment theme park, KidzMondo Beirut, thus further expanding its reach to a younger audience. Moreover, as part of its CSR agenda, Cosmaline partners with The Brave Heart Fund to raise funds for children in need of heart operations.

2016In accordance with its commitment to Corporate Governance, Malia Group selects four independent members to its Board of Directors as well as appoints a new CEO, COO, and CTO. Moreover, a CEO is appointed to Malia Invest Holding, established to oversee Malia Group’s diversified business operations in Iraq and active in Consumer Goods Distribution, Engineering & Contracting, and Hospitality & Real Estate. Cosmaline and Pharmaline are awarded “Institution Reporting their Greenhouse Gas Emissions” by the Lebanese Ministry of the Environment and the United Nations Development Program. Mared Al Iraqiya unveils its new and expanded premises in Iraq.

2017Malia Group further consolidates its operations with the opening of Malia Tower, joining Malia Head Office. Malia Tower houses Malia Group’s Lebanon-based subsidiaries. Cosmaline launches Soft Wave Hijab Shampoo and Conditioner, a first-of-its-kind regional formula designed for Hijabi women. The Erbil Arjaan, a first-class property offering 168 stunningly furnished apartments, 2 outstanding food and beverage venues and 24-hour in-room dining service, opens its doors to the public. MaliaTec General Trading LLC opens for business to serve the UAE market. MaliaTec wins prestigious Honeywell Best Regional Coverage 2016 Award, reflecting the company’s strategy, vision, and commitment to business excellence.

2018Cosmaline becomes Cosmetics Goods Manufacturing Processes certified. Ch. Sarraf & Co. signs distribution deal with Collistar (Italy) and Helloskin (South Korea), respectively, for the distribution of their skincare products. Pharmaline signs License agreement with Exeltis (Spain). Mared Al Iraqiya wins L’Oreal Best Distribution Drive 2018 award. Cosmaline launches Cosmal Cure Professional TVC campaign, Soft Wave Hijab Oil Replacement, a re-look and two additional SKUs in fixnet range, and Soft Wave Hello Sunshine Hair Lightener. Moreover, Cosmal Cure Professional Color Cream (24 shades) by Cosmaline is distributed in supermarkets across Iraq. Ch. Sarraf & Co. wins Wella Professionals Trendsetter Sales Manager of the Year Award for Asia, Middle East, & Africa.

2019Malia Group signs personal care partnership agreement with Qatar’s Darwish Holding for the distribution of Cosmaline products in the Gulf Emirate. Pharmaline undergoes third expansion to keep up with demand, thus doubling its manufacturing capacity. Magma Square Sulaimani opens its doors to the public, offering guests a first-of-its-kind retail and entertainment destination in Iraq. MaliaTec wins the much-coveted Honeywell Best Portfolio Mix Award 2018 for its outstanding ability to sell solutions in all vertical markets. Taking a page from regional ancestors’ approach to skincare, Cosmaline launches its spellbinding collection of six hand washes. Mars Wrigley awards Mared Al Iraqiya Best Quality Growth - Chocolate 2019 award.
